It's been a busy month and the students continue to be hard at work!

Students have been participating in the One World Drumming program and they will get the opportunity to share what they have learned with the school. Parents are welcome to come on Tuesday to view the school showcase at 1:15 pm in the Gymnasium.

Art/Literacy

The students learned about pointillism by first looking at some of the most famous artists that swore by using this technique to create their masterpieces. As we were talking about setting and using descriptive juicy words in a narrative story to immerse the reader into a new world, the students then went on to use some of those juicy paragraphs found in The Chronicles of Narnia to bring the settings to life through art. As a class, we went through the paragraph and found all the words that described the setting to create our success criteria and then created a rough draft before we got started. If you came to the winter celebration you might have gotten a chance to see our final drafts but if not, we will be sending home the finished product this week.

How is my child doing?
Students posted a reflection on IRIS related to a paragraph they wrote about winter traditions they would bring to Narnia. This reflection shows where students are currently with paragraph writing. Please engage in conversation with your child about what their strengths are in paragraph writing and what their next steps are.

Math
Patterns, patterns and more patterns! The students have been working on breaking down a number or shape pattern and describing it using: Start_______ . Then _________. The students were also given challenge questions to solve the many layers of a pyramid and find the increasing pattern using manipulatives and a t-table chart.

Social Studies
Students have been using the Christmas Around the World website to compare and contrast their own Christmas traditions to others around the world. Ask your child what countries they have been learning about in their self-guided research and how they have been showing this learning.
