Science:
In
Science this week, students finished up their animal and plant research on the
swamps, bogs, marshes and fens in a wetland ecosystem.
Students
began preparing a proposal for their culminating project. Each group decided on
sharing their learning through a green screen script, PowToon, PowerPoint,
poster, comic strip or a children’s storybook. These projects will be underway
for the next two weeks as students consolidate their learning.
Math:
This
week in Math, we reviewed multiplication strategies that we reintroduced to
students last week which were: box method, traditional and partial products.
We
starting looking at collecting data, interpreting graphs and designing our own
graphs this week. We warmed up our brains by creating a single bar graph to
show teachers what we remember about graphs using data on film preferences.
Then,
we interpreted graphs about voter turnouts from 1867 – 2015 by answering the
following questions:
-
What
information is included in the graph?
-
What
information is not included in the graph?
-
What
patterns did you notice about the data?
-
What
can we conclude from the data provided in the graph?
Then
we looked at creating a visual representation to compare voter turnout data
from 2011 and 2015. Next week, we will be dissecting the data from our Federal
Election results.
Humanities:
This
week, we researched political parties and created inspirational speech videos
and slide shows to convince people to vote for our party. We watched the videos
and slideshows. Students engaged in an official “Student Vote.” Mrs. Kawohl and
Ms. Halter will send the information to the government! These results will be
shown at the election results on Monday evening through the “Student Vote”
results.
Zones
of Regulation
In
Health this week, students began looking at the size of the problem. They each
wrote a sticky note related to a problem they are currently experiencing in
their lives. We dissected what a Level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 problem is and the size
of these problems. Then we went through everyone’s problems that they posted
and re-evaluated if they were really a Level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. We will be using
this language consistently in our classroom for the duration of the school
year.
Career and Technology
Foundations
We
signed up for CTF sessions this week. This is replacing what was formally known
as C.A.D.
