WE MISS YOU!

Good afternoon Grade 5/6 students and families!

A Message from Mr. Kandola and Ms. Halter:
'Hope you are taking your social distancing seriously like we are.

We know this is a difficult time for everyone but if we stick together, 1-meter apart, we will get through this hard time and persevere! Please continue to check our blog for any updates on how CBE and Cambrian Heights School is moving forward. For now, enjoy your spring break, try to get outside, and stay active!'

A Message from Mrs. Kawohl:
"I can imagine how scared or uncertain some of you may be feeling, although I am sure some of you are also excited to be getting some time off of school. It is all going to be okay. Remember to take care of yourself so that you are the best version of yourself that you can be for your family and friends during this difficult time. Over the next little while, I will miss all of your stories, your jokes, your smiles, your laughter, your kindness, your out-of-the-box thinking, your willingness to try new things, your thoughtful comments, your desire to be the best you can be, and most of all, I will miss our tight-knit classroom community."

Here are your weekly Maddie and Miley photos:

A Message from Mr. Merino:
"I hope you are relaxing, catching up on your sleep, and continue to learn something new every day. It is always enjoyable seeing all of you walk into the classroom each morning and, hopefully, I can see you all again! If there is one thought I would like you to remember while school is cancelled, it is this: the school may be closed but Nature, Reading, Music, Imagination, and Kindness are NOT cancelled!!"

Here is your weekly wildlife photo of an owl taken on the acreage:

Remember to spend time outside, getting some fresh air! Think of three positive things that are happening for you right now!

At the end of this blog post, there is a spot where you can post a comment for your teacher(s) if you'd like to leave us a message, a funny story, or anything else at all that you'd like to share with us. We look forward to reading your comments.

Resources for Learning

Prodigy: All Grade 5/6 students have Prodigy accounts that they have been using throughout the school year.  This is a resource we encourage you to continue using at home.

Reading: All Grade 5/6 students have been using this model for reading throughout the school year to increase their comprehension. We encourage you to continue practicing these skills at home.

CBE Resources: CBE has created a webpage that offers a variety of educational ideas to support literacy, numeracy and wellness at home for this week. The resources are meant as suggestions only. You may choose to use the links and activities as needed over the next little while as more long-term educational programming is considered. You can access these resources at: https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/learning-at-home/Pages/default.aspx

Mental Health Supports: CBE has compiled some suggestions for talking to children about COVID-19. You can find CBE mental health supports and resources on this website: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/about-us/school-culture-and-environment/health-and-wellness-in-school/Pages/Positive-Mental-Health.aspx

This is a great social story for students to read as well.

Cambrian Heights School will be closed over spring break as usual. Staff will not be in the building from March 23 - 27.

At this point in time, classes remain to be cancelled after spring break. Please stay posted for any updates. We will respond to parent emails after spring break, beginning March 30th.

Please note: We will not be sending out a school messenger every time the Blog is updated so please bookmark this page and check back regularly.

Have a good spring break! Stay safe and take care of each other.
