Fractions!

We have started exploring Fractions this week!

Students were given a series of cards with different fractions on them. They worked together to identify where on a number line from 0 to 1 the fractions would go.

Students were able to identify equivalent fractions (different fractions that name the same number). For example, 1/2 is the same as 5/10 and 2/8 is the same as 1/4.

There was a lot of discussion between students as they identified patterns in the fractions on the number line. They were able to reason with each other about why fractions were placed incorrectly and where they needed to be moved to.

Next, we will be learning how to add and subtract fractions using Cuisenaire rods!
